Parents
SLGFA can help you plan for your child's education:
Talk to your child’s guidance counselor
Guidance counselors can provide valuable advice to help you prepare for college, including letting you know what classes are necessary, eligibility requirements for Advanced Placement courses, and schedules and forms for the college admissions exams.
Prepare a college planning file
Create a file that includes your child’s report cards, a list of awards and honors, a list of his or her involvement in school and community activities, and test scores from college entrance exams.
Maintain a list of schools that match your child’s skills and interests. You also can keep records on admission requirements, deadlines, and financial aid opportunities to ease the stress of preparing for that next step.
